Broadcom Corporation Adopts PROLIFIC's ProGenerate Suite To Accelerate Silicon Library Development.

NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1999--

PROLIFIC, Inc., developer of EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board.  software for creating IC cell layout, today announced it is providing its ProGenerate tools to automate Broadcom Corporation's standard-cell library generation.

"As a leading developer of high-speed broadband digital data transmission for homes and businesses, we wanted to be able to capture our design expertise as part of the automation process," said Steve Crain, Associate Director of Broadcom's Cable-TV Business Unit. "We're concerned about area minimization, and we won't sacrifice performance, and ProGenerate gives us the best of both worlds."

Crain continued, "We evaluated other tools, but the results we've seen with ProGenerate have been outstanding, and we've really become believers in PROLIFIC's methodology."

layout by identifying patterns in the netlist and selecting appropriate generators (including those created by the user) to produce those subcells. ProGenerate can accommodate user-defined layout objects, such as unique transistors, wires, and contacts, as well as new design-rules.

"Our customers look to the design experience we've put into our tools," noted PROLIFIC President Dr. Paul de Dood. "And because ProGenerate can learn the customer's layout style, we provide both full control and full automation of the library generation process."

PROLIFIC, Inc.'s EDA tools include the ProGenerate suite, used by customers like Broadcom for rapid, design-rule independent generation of standard-cell libraries. PROLIFIC's library generation and migration tools capture customer design styles for reuse reuse - Using code developed for one application program in another application. Traditionally achieved using program libraries. Object-oriented programming offers reusability of code via its techniques of inheritance and genericity. , provide total control over layout appearance, accelerate library development, and produce output rivaling hand-drawn layout.
