Broadband User EVOLUTION.A RECENT STUDY by Excite@Home reveals that broadband users are a different breed than narrowband In communications, transmission rates up to T1 speeds (1.544 Mbps). The upper limit is moving target. At one time, narrowband meant 150 bps (that is 150 bits per second!). Then, the upper limit became 2,400 bps. Later, it moved to 64 Kbps. Contrast with wideband and broadband. users: They are more likely to spend additional time browsing the Web, taking advantage of e-commerce, and exploring streaming video and audio on the Internet. The data gathered through online interviews showed that 55 percent of broadband consumers spend more time online, and they spend an average of 91 percent more than narrowband users ($400 vs. $209). Other findings: 46 percent vs. 18 percent are much more likely to watch movie trailers; 52 percent vs. 31 percent are more likely to watch streaming video; and 48 percent vs. 30 percent are more likely to get software on demand.
