Broadband TelCom Power Inc., (BTCP) an innovative leader in the design and manufacture of high performance power supplies is utilizing its patented and patent-pending technologies to redefine the performance limits of the industry standard Compact PCI 3U 200W power supply by introducing its CP-200 series.

The CP-200 series, in the industry standard 3U-high form factor, offers: 1. highest efficiency through synchronous rectification, 2. better thermal de-rating performance, 3. active load-current share, 4. active hot-swap, 5. completely independent output channels, thus no cross regulation, and 6. uses no optocoupler, thus maximizes MTBF. BTCP, known as the performance leader in high current density power supplies, has been credited with releasing the world's first 50 Amp quarter brick (HQ series) in 2001, and world's first 30 Amp at 5.0V quarter brick (QMT series) in 1998.

This new "best of class" CP-200 series delivers output up to 200W, even at elevated ambient temperature, from an input range of 85Vac to 264Vac, 47-63Hz, or 48Vdc nominal input with a range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc.

The CP-200 series solves this problem with the use of BTCP's patented Flat Matrix Transformer structure, synchronous rectifications, and an innovative heat-spreader that minimizes temperature gradients."

BTCP's patented Flat Matrix Transformer technology offers distinct advantages over conventional transformer technology. While conventional transformer technology utilizes a single core with multiple windings to achieve a voltage step-down ratio, Flat Matrix Transformer technology uses multiple cores with single or minimal windings. This patented technology is better suited to handle heat dissipation, thus allowing BTCP to offer higher power density products than its competition.

BTCP's new CP-200 series utilizes multiple 10-mm Flat Matrix Transformer cores that dissipate heat effectively due to increased surface area, whereas traditional CPCI power supplies utilize fewer or larger cores, which dissipate heat less effectively. The Flat Matrix Transformers also enable precise sharing of output current delivered by each of the multiple cores, thus improving the efficiency of synchronous rectification.

These features enable the CP-200 to maintain a very high efficiency even at high output currents. Whereas the normal efficiency of a conventional CPCI power supply is about 70%, the CP-200 series boast an efficiency of 76-81% at low-line 120Vac operating conditions; and even better efficiency at 240Vac.

Other features of the CP-200 series include active load-current share that allows other power supplies to be connected in parallel and maintain even load sharing between the supplies, an active hot-swap manager that facilitates minimal voltage fluctuations during hot-swap operations. Other features include remote on/off, remote-output voltage sensing, tightly regulated output voltages, over-temperature protection, output over-current protection, over-voltage protection and input under-voltage protection.

In order to maximize MTBF, the CP-200 eliminates the use of any optocouplers. The module is designed to meet the requirements of EN60950 and UL60950. It meets the conducted emission requirements of EN55022 and surge requirements of EN61000-4-5.
