community worldwide, making it possible for scientists to remotely access and manipulate specialized scientific instruments installed at different facilities using a standard Internet browser. Combining IMS technology with customized software See custom software. , scientists from anywhere in the world can conduct complex experiments using instruments from within a virtual electronic laboratory, and observe real-time video displays from instruments, remotely control settings, and keep records of their findings without traveling to each site.

"BroadWare's IMS technology enables us to provide remote users with an effective means of connecting to the ANL Telepresence Meaning "long distance presence," it refers to videoconferencing applications that feel like a live meeting. Notable features are larger screens that may approach a virtual reality environment and sensors that keep at least one window focused on whomever is speaking at the moment.  Microscopy site without developing new software," said Dr. Nestor J. Zaluzec(1), Advanced Analytical Electron Microscopy Project Leader & Member of Research Staff for the Materials Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory. "The ability to provision for ubiquitous passive observation of the scientific data using IMS provides both a convenient and secure method of permitting access to unique resources without compromising network security. Users are able to remotely observe and participate in scientific experiments with virtually no cost."

BroadWare Interactive Media Server provides a highly scalable and reliable video distribution platform for building applications for collaboration, video surveillance, monitoring, transportation, distance learning, and corporate broadcasting. Unlike other streaming platforms, BroadWare IMS technology offers a platform independent Java-based player that requires no plug-ins, enabling client side viewing from a standard Internet browser.

"We are honored that Argonne National Laboratory continues to place its trust in BroadWare technology to expand research capabilities for its scientists," said William Stuntz, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.
