Hutchison Essar has a subscriber base of 500,000. Aggressive marketing of its cellular brand has resulted in 100 percent annual growth since 1999 and Hutchison Essar was looking for a technology solution that would support this level of growth while keeping service and support costs in check. The company's goal was to consolidate disparate web sites into a centralized employee portal that would provide one-stop access to information, tools and business processes; and a sales portal that would provide its customer base with self-service access to information, services and targeted incentives.

Hutch's B2E portal provides self-service access to HR records and forms and makes it easy for a distributed team of content providers to post and edit content on the site and for project teams and communities of interest to share information and participate in online discussions. The B2C portal allows customers to view billing records online and to take advantage of value-add features such as group messaging, e-bill alerts and text-to-speech conversion of e-mails. It also provides personalized incentives and targeted promotions, resulting in incremental revenue for the company.
