BroadSoft and Pingtel Sign Joint Interoperability and Marketing Partnership.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. and WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 1999--

Partnership Provides Enhanced Services Enhanced service is service offered over commercial carrier transmission facilities used in interstate communications, that employs computer processing applications that act on the format, content, code, protocol, or similar aspects of the subscriber's transmitted information;  for Voice over IP Centrex A telephone service in which an IP-based PBX is located in the telephone company's facilities. It connects to the customer via the LAN rather than by telephone wires. IP CENTREX offers voice over IP and other IP-based services as well as connectivity to the regular telephone system (PSTN).

BroadSoft(TM), Inc., and Pingtel(TM) Corp. today announced a joint technology and marketing agreement to develop and market an IP Centrex offering to service providers. The combined solution will allow next-generation service providers to offer a robust set of basic and enhanced services to the small and medium size enterprise market.

The recent trend toward deploying packet-based networks provides the opportunity to pursue a more elegant approach to integrated enhanced services and voice over IP-based infrastructures. One component of the packet-based trend is broadband integrated access over "the last mile," which will enable voice, data, and video to be converged in groundbreaking ways for new service offerings.

"The last mile requires not only a transport layer but also the enabling of a layer of intelligence and call control for voice over IP networking. The intelligence is being built on today's standard industry protocols such as SIP, H.323, and MGCP See MGCP/MEGACO.

", said Michael Tessler, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of BroadSoft. "BroadSoft and Pingtel are supplying two key components to leverage this opportunity", he added.

Pingtel's intelligent telephones are not only built and designed to operate on open standards Specifications for hardware and software that are developed by a standards organization or a consortium involved in supporting a standard. Available to the public for developing compliant products, open standards imply "open systems;" that an existing component in a system can be replaced  like SIP, MGCP, and H.323, but they are also extensible to enable the creation and delivery of new services over IP-based carrier infrastructures. These services can reside in the service provider central offices and tap a service repository such as the BroadSoft platform. BroadSoft has built a software platform that allows service providers to develop and deploy IP-based services cost-effectively and rapidly into their network.

"Together BroadSoft and Pingtel are delivering a extensive service package for IP-based Centrex. This allows Competitive Local Exchange Carriers and Integrated Communications Providers to provision and create new services and to meet user requirements for fast flexible services", said Jay Batson, President and CEO of Pingtel.
