BroadBand Technologies Earns ISO 9000 Registration For Products And Service.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 20, 1994 -- BroadBand Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBTK) today announced that it has been registered as compliant with ISO 9000 criteria for the design, development, manufacturing and support of the company's Fiber Loop Access (FLX(r)) System. ISO 9000 registration is a worldwide symbol of quality, and a growing number of companies require their vendors to be ISO 9000 registered.

BroadBand was registered as compliant with ISO 9001 criteria. ISO 9001 is the most comprehensive of the ISO 9000 series of quality criteria, covering the entire product life cycle: design, development, manufacturing and support. The ISO 9000 registration process is defined by the International Organization for Standardization and provides guidelines for quality management within an enterprise.

BroadBand initiated the ISO 9001 review process in April of 1994, and was registered on its first application. The stringent process includes the review of documentation and on-site audits by Bellcore, an official ISO 9000 registrar. While many companies apply for ISO 9001 registration for their hardware only, BroadBand specifically applied for both hardware and software. To do this, Bellcore used an extension of ISO 9001 standards written to address software, called ISO 9000-3. "We want our customers to have the utmost confidence that when they implement our software, they will be using a quality product that has been rigorously tested," added Bhatia.

The ISO 9001 registration applies to BroadBand's facilities in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, for 3 years. Bellcore will routinely audit BroadBand every six months to ensure continued compliance.

BroadBand Technologies' FLX System is a switched digital video system that incorporates asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching and transport to provide broadcast and interactive services over fiber-to-the-curb networks. The FLX system enables network operators to provide telephone service and advanced services such as enhanced cable TV, impulse pay-per-view movies and movies- on-demand, multi-media home shopping, electronic yellow pages, interactive educational programs, and telemedicine on up to 1,500 interactive channels. The BroadBand FLX system allows consumers to choose when and what to watch, transforming the idea of an unwieldy cable TV system with hundreds of channels into an easy- to-use, interactive channel that is customized for each consumer.
