The new Advanced Video Test Suite for the BrixWorx software engine enables network engineers and managers to proactively conduct pre-deployment testing, continuous performance monitoring, and service verification -- plus aid troubleshooting and problem diagnosis efforts -- of IP-based video networks and associated services.

This add-on suite of Brix performance and quality tests supports rich media streaming services, live broadcast video, video-on-demand, and advanced, collaborative and videoconferencing applications that have gained in popularity for a wide variety of corporate uses, including: virtual meetings, training, distance learning, company communications, information kiosks, and surveillance.

The Advanced Video Test Suite provides support for major streaming transmission and control standards, including RTP (1) (Rapid Transport Protocol) The protocol used in IBM's High Performance Routing (HPR) system.

"Video traffic typically places a dramatic demand on network bandwidth and resources, especially when added to pre-existing voice and data traffic," said Jamie Warter, vice president of marketing and business development, at Brix Networks. "Not only are video applications resource-intensive, but, similar to voice applications, they are also particularly intolerant to quality-impacting network effects, such as delay, jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle , and packet loss. The Brix System measures all critical factors required for high-performance video networks, including the availability and performance of video servers and caches, video quality, and the performance of the supporting IP infrastructure."

Availability and Pricing

The Advanced Video Test Suite for BrixWorx, which supports an unlimited number of hardware Verifiers, will be available in 90 days at a U.S. list price of $40,000. Similar to other BrixWorx plug-in test modules, like the Advanced VoIP Performance Test Suite, once the Advanced Video Test Suite has been installed on a BrixWorx server, all its video tests are immediately available for use with new and existing service level agreements (SLAs) and services.
