Brits' pounds 13k to charity.


BRITONS give pounds 230 a year to charity, adding up to pounds 13,000 during their lifetime, research revealed yesterday.

 is the most popular way for people to make gifts, accounting for around pounds 150.

On top of this we spend pounds 20 a year in charity shops and sponsor an average of 2.4 people annually, says finance group Clerical Medical.

A further pounds 11.63 a year goes into charity boxes, with more for disasters like the Asian tsunami.

Clerical Medical said: "We really are a generous nation as pounds 13,000 is quite a chunk of money."
