It follows the EU's warning that tourists should not go to the country unless unavoidable. The Foreign Office had originally sparked confusion by declaring it was safe to travel to Mexico. That left tourists having to make their own judgment call on whether to fly there. Ministers simply advised visitors to stay away from crowds and not shake hands or kiss anyone. But the Foreign Office website said later: "British nationals in or visiting Mexico may wish to consider whether they should remain there at this time.''
