BRITNEY Spears has infuriated Jewish leaders over plans to star in a romantic movie set in a concentration camp.

The star is reported to be considering an offer to play a time travelling heroine, who goes back to a Nazi death camp and falls in love with a Jewish inmate.

The film would have Britney playing Sophie LaMont, who brings her lover back to the present day where they're pursued and hunted down by Nazis, reports Spiegel newspaper in Germany.

Now Britney has been branded "reprehensible" by religious leaders in a row over the movie, called The Yellow Star of Sophie and Eton.

Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said: "In films that deal with the Holocaust, the script should be carefully chosen and the cast picked with care. It is reprehensible to combine the Holocaust with Britney Spears."

Britney vowed to give up movies after her flop Crossroads, which won the star Worst Actress in the Golden Raspberry Awards.
