Through employing the Commerce One BuySite application with BT MarketSite, BT has built upon the work already undertaken to improve the supply chain and transform BT into a true e-business organization. By rationalizing the supply base and improving the internal process for purchasing, BT has already reduced the average cost of a purchasing transaction from 70 pounds ($113) to 50 pounds ($80). BT estimates that the cost per transaction will fall again to 5 pounds ($8) as a result of the use of BT MarketSite.

BT plans to place all six of its procurement business streams, which include Stationery The term for boilerplate in the Eudora mail client, starting with Version 3.0. "By using a common trading mechanism we are able to both dramatically reduce our costs, the time taken to order and opportunities for purchasing error," said Patricia Vaz, procurement director at BT. With the first live transactions through BuySite having taken place smoothly and efficiently, we have taken the vital first step in our commitment to change the way we do business."

It included customer service and subscription administration capabilities as well as an integrated database for reporting  with specified suppliers whose catalogues are set up on BT MarketSite. Buyers view catalogues that are specific to their buying needs and reflect prices and discount volumes particular to their requirements. The buyer can then view the supplier's product range, stock availability and delivery time, receive a quote or place an order without ever having to make a phone call or send a fax.

Orders can be tracked automatically so that buyers are continually aware of their status and are fully aware of order arrival times. BT MarketSite also facilitates authorization of orders and accounts for all order costs.
