BT Wholesale Services & Solutions (BT Wholesale) has inaugurated this transformation first with the launch of e.Co Order, a new Web-based ordering service. e.Co Order relies on Siebel eBusiness Applications to link customer service, sales and marketing across multiple channels -- from the Web, to phone, and email -- to improve customer service and satisfaction among BT Wholesale clients such as Cable & Wireless, Thus, Telstra, Colt COLT. BT is one of the top three European telecommunications providers, and BT Wholesale Services & Solutions is a market-leading supplier to other operators in the European telecommunications and data services market. BT Wholesale provides more than 300 established and emerging telecommunications companies with communication products and services, which may be sold directly or as part of a wider service package to end-user customers or to other third-party customers.

Until now, more than 700 BT Wholesale professionals have managed sales and customer service through a fax-based request system. Customers complete and fax service request forms to place a total of 30,416 orders on average each month. Service professionals review, verify and confirm the orders and complex specifications, such as multiple service delivery destinations, by fax, and respond to requests for order status through the same channel.

BT estimates demand for Wholesale services could increase as much as six-fold this year, but the fax-based sales and customer service infrastructure is insufficient to grow quickly enough to accommodate this surge in demand, and would require hiring on a massive scale to process new orders and ensure customer satisfaction.

To capture this tremendous business potential, BT Wholesale has chosen Siebel eBusiness Applications to standardize and unite its sales, service and marketing infrastructure in a single, comprehensive multi-channel system that extends management of customer relationships beyond fax- and telephone-based contact to multiple channels, including online, in-person and phone contact.

e.Co Order expands the previous sales and service infrastructure from the fax machine to the Web (and beyond), freeing customer interaction from the limitations of a single channel and allowing BT Wholesale to scale up to meet demand.

Siebel eBusiness Applications allows e.Co Order to link with legacy back-end systems, to make the most of prior technology investments without added

"BT Wholesale Services & Solutions anticipates processing more than two million orders through the end of 2001, representing a six-fold increase in volume. Our decision to standardize on Siebel eBusiness Applications was based on its robust, world-class technology and Siebel Systems' renown for complete customer satisfaction," said Stuart Horwood, director, BT Wholesale Services & Solutions.

"We must ensure customer satisfaction and make it easier for our customers to work with us, if we are to translate our projections into real, long-term growth. Siebel eBusiness Applications allow our customers to choose any channel of communication that suits them -- and does not require significant additional investment to integrate viable back-end systems that are already in place."
