CAIS Software Solutions (CAIS), the leader in automated Internet access software, Tuesday announced that British Telecom (BT), one of the world's largest communication services providers, has deployed the IPORT(TM) family of products in its chain of Granada Workspace Lounges (http://www.workspace.bt.com).

This deployment, the first in the U.K., demonstrates IPORT's continued success as the leading solution worldwide for service providers who need to rapidly deploy, manage and market broadband services to the multi-family, hospitality, and multi-tenant markets. CAIS Software will be demonstrating the IPORT family of products at SUPERCOMM 2000 in Atlanta, June 6-8, in Booth No. 4762.

BT selected IPORT Broadband Provisioning System (BPS) to automatically manage high-speed Internet connections. IPORT BPS provides an easy to use solution that doesn't require any software or reconfiguration of the end-users' computer.

"IPORT BPS allows customers working at a Workspace Lounge to access the Internet without having to reconfigure their laptops, as well as giving direct connection to printers without installing additional drivers," said Martin Harrow, BT Syncordia development manager. As well, with IPORT, customers can connect directly to their own company's LAN if they have the correct security software."

BT's overall solution, e-Port, was tailored for the Workspace Lounge by BT Syncordia Solutions and includes advanced telephony, Internet, and Video-conferencing capabilities, making them the most flexible facilities of their kind in the country. BT is also piloting BT e-Port within the Jarvis International Hotel at Watford -- another high-tech facility designed for the business traveler.

"BT e-Port has been designed to be used in any public arena -- airports, hospitals, other hotel chains -- and our plan is to introduce it to as many facilities as possible," Harrow said.

BT's Workspace Lounges also features CAIS Software's IPORT Public Terminal System (PTS), which ensures a reliable working environment for customers using one of the facility's PCs. With the help of IPORT PTS, users can log on and use a managed PC without involving Workspace staff. Their sessions are secure and are automatically managed based on policies determined at the local level that determine pricing, content filtering, and free usage zones.

"When someone finishes a session at Workspace, the IPORT PTS managed PC is wiped clean to ensure security and system reliability," Harrow said.
