Critical Path's SMS Server Powers BT Genie's

New Wireless Messaging Services

Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq:CPTH), a leading global provider of Internet Messaging and Directory Infrastructure, announced that Genie, British Telecom's (BT) Mobile Internet business has completed their implementation of Critical Path's Short Message Service (SMS) server and has launched their two-way text messaging services to users throughout Europe and Asia. With this new service, users are able to send and receive text messages from a mobile device or any computer with Internet access and set up criteria to forward emails from their desktop inbox directly to their mobile device.

In addition to the two-way text messaging service, Critical Path's SMS server is also enabling Genie to deliver personalized wireless content to its users, such as up-to-the-minute information on services, events and activities to which they have subscribed. Leveraging Critical Path technology will also enable Genie to expand its services in the future to include information such as stock quotes, traffic reports, sports results and mobile banking and commerce.

Critical Path's SMS Server was particularly attractive for Genie's Asian initiative, which required an SMS solution with the ability to utilize double byte characters and the scalability to handle large volumes of messages without any degradation in service. Additionally, Critical Path offers a software developers kit as part of the SMS server package that enables Genie to write custom applications that can deliver various forms of content, from bank information and horoscopes, to phone numbers and email addresses.
