British Special Envoy for Pak-Afghanistan meets Governor.

LAHORE, April 24, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- A special British envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Sir Sherard Cowper-Codes along with a delegation met Governor Punjab Salman Taseer at Governor House here Thursday. British High Commissioner in Pakistan Robert Brinkley was also present on the occasion. Both the leaders discussed matters of mutual interest especially situation in the South Asia. Speaking on the occasion, the envoy said that he was assigned a duty by the British government to coordinate efforts with international community for ensuring economic stability in Pakistan. He said British leadership fully believes that there is no danger to world from Pakistan. He expressed his concern that terrorist elements carrying terrorist activities in Pakistan could emerge as danger for the country. The envoy appreciating the efforts of Pakistan for the elimination of Al-Qaeda, said We believe in political reconciliation with strands of conservative Pashtoon tribes of Afghanistan fighting as Taliban. Highlighting the importance of resolution of Kashmir issue, he underlined the need for initiating Composite Dialogue to minimise tension between Pakistan and India. He said that after the appointment of Richard Holbrooke as Special Envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan by US, British, Germany, France, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Spain and Poland have decided to nominate their Special Envoys for Pakistan and Afghanistan due to strategic importance of the region. The governor told the envoy that the nation was fully united against the elements involved in killing of innocent people during bomb blasts and damaging educational institutions. He said that Nizam-i-Adl Regulation was promulgated in Swat to ensure peace in the area. People of Swat are peace loving, Salman Taseer said adding the government would fulfil its responsibility if armed Taliban try to sabotage the peace in Swat.
