Government Modernization 

Jacada Ltd. (NASDAQ:JCDA), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure software, today announced that Her Majesty's Land Registry (HM Land Registry) has officially launched a new online system - Land Registry Direct - in line with UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's proclamation to modernize the UK government. The new system has been enhanced by Jacada's e-business solutions. Land Registry Direct was launched today in London at a press conference hosted by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine, and Chief Land Registrar, Peter Collis.

Property professionals in England and Wales will benefit from faster, more efficient title searches for land information. Additionally, the online system will provide lower fees that are typically associated with these searches.

HM Land Registry guarantees the titles and records the ownership of all registered land in England and Wales. The new system will significantly increase the speed of service and ease of use for existing automated customers while reducing turnaround times from one week to a matter of minutes for customers who relied on the antiquated manual process. For example, the system will dramatically speed up the loan process by delivering efficient, timely and accurate land information to lenders. This new technology will initially be used by some 2000 customers with the broad aim being to significantly expand this customer base.

The Prime Minister's proclamation to modernize the government declared the use of new technologies as a means to make significant changes for the better in the delivery of government services. The Government e-business strategy to modernize government states that all departments will have initial e-business strategies in place by October 2000 with the longer term target of offering all government services online by 2005. HM Land Registry has been at the forefront of government in providing a range of services electronically.

Jacada(R) for Java makes it possible for HM Land Registry to give online access to its mainframe-based Land Registry system without making any changes to the existing application. This solution generates a robust graphical client interface that is secure and browser independent.
