British European Confirms Order for 20 BAE SYSTEMS AVRO RJX-100 Airliners and Selects JetSpares & EFDMS.Business Editors LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 11, 2001 BAE SYSTEMS BAE Systems British manufacturer of aircraft, missiles, avionics, naval vessels, and other aerospace and defense products. Aircraft Services Group today announced that British European, the UK's largest independent regional carrier, has signed a definitive contract for up to 20 AVRO RJX-100 airliners worth over $600m, reconfirming a detailed Memorandum of Understanding A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a legal document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between parties. The airline has also reached agreement with BAE SYSTEMS to extend its JetSpares aircraft support program (currently in place on its BAe 146 fleet) for a further 10 years, in a deal worth in excess of $70m. As part of the RJX contract, British European will be one of the launch customers for BAE SYSTEMS' new Internet See Web 2.0 and Internet2. service EFDMS (Electronic Fleet Data Management System). EFDMS supplies dynamic operational data through a series of user friendly web enabled screens. The system has currently over 100 screens, of which 70 use dynamic charts to display output. British European is the European launch customer of the RJX and its order brings total commitments for the Woodford-built Avro RJX family to 14 firm orders and 14 options. The signing of the order builds on a strong relationship between BAE SYSTEMS and British European which started in 1993 when the then 13-year old regional airline moved into jet flying with the BAe 146. Today, British European operates 17 of the type. Currently in its flight test program, the RJX, which first flew on 28 April, has now exceeded 100 hours and 50 flights. The aircraft made its public debut at Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK on May 21, performing a flight demonstration for airlines, suppliers and media who gathered from around the world for BAE SYSTEMS' RJX Celebration Day. Commenting on the order, Jim French, managing director of British European said: "The Avro RJX will mark an exciting new chapter for British European. We have enjoyed considerable success with the BAe 146, which has proved very popular with our passengers. The RJX will give us even greater potential to develop our network.
