Brite to Expand Sprint PCS Prepaid Service.

Sprint PCS began launching the nation's first 100 percent digital, 100 percent PCS network in December 1996. It is currently available in more than 150 metropolitan markets that include more than 4,000 cities and communities across the country. Brite is currently providing turnkey managed services An umbrella term for third-party monitoring and maintaining of computers, networks and software. The actual equipment may be inhouse or at the third-party's facilities, but the "managed" implies an ongoing effort; for example, making sure the equipment is running at a certain quality  under the original contract, which at the time was the largest managed services award in Brite's history.

"Prepaid wireless has been very well received in cities where our service is currently available," said Terry Yu, vice president of product marketing and development for Sprint PCS. "As a result of this ongoing relationship with Brite, we have been able to address the needs of the credit-challenged and budget conscious."

Sprint PCS plans to expand into several new markets in the next year, including Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; and Charlotte, NC. Brite will provide prepaid service for Sprint PCS in these markets.

Brite's prepaid service for Sprint PCS functions like a debit-based account. Prepaid customers maintain a balance on their accounts via cash, prepaid air time cards. Also, post-billed customers use prepaid cards to place calls that do not appear on their invoices.
