Brite Supports First German Personal Number Service for Mannesmann.ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 1998--Using technology from Brite Voice Systems (Nasdaq:BVSI), Mannesmann Mobilfunk GmbH launched Germany's first Personal Number (PN) service that uses subscribers' mobile numbers for their single number. A Personal Number service allows subscribers to be accessible with a single number from wherever they are, whether it is on the road with a mobile phone, at their desk or in a different office. Mannesmann's D2-UniversalNumber service was implemented in two stages using Brite's multi-application Voice Services Director (VSD VSD abbr. ventricular septal defect VSD ventricular septal defect. VSD Ventricular septal defect, see there; also virtually safe dose ) platform. VSD is marketed and sold by Brite in Asia as well as South and North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. as BriteESP. In the first stage, service was presented at CeBIT '98 and at that time it was the first PN service in a German mobile radio network. The service offers functions such as network-independent call forwarding call forwarding n. Mailboxes are stored on disk as a file of messages, a database of messages or as an individual file for each message. The standard mailboxes are usually In, Out, Trash and Junk (Spam). for calls that cannot reach the subscriber directly. Adjusting the settings is easy and intuitive and can be carried out from any phone via a voice menu accessed from a common number. These adjustments can also be made via the Internet. This service was implemented on the Brite VSD platform already installed at Mannesmann. VSD handles call forwarding, parameter-controlled selection of the targeted calling number and similar functions as well as administrative activities. The D2-UniversalNumber service is designed to initially call the subscriber's D2 mobile via their mobile number. If the subscriber is unavailable there, D2-UniversalNumber starts a search for the subscriber. In a user-defined sequence, three personal target numbers are called. If the customer answers, the call is not put through immediately - instead a friendly voice prompts A recorded message that is played by auto attendants, interactive voice response (IVR) systems, message-on-hold systems and other voice processing tools. The "prompt" is a request to input some data; a recording that does not ask for feedback is more properly called a voice "message." him or her to take the call. If the call is not answered within a predefined time, the search continues. Should the subscriber be unavailable on all three numbers, the call is forwarded to their D2-Mailbox and an appropriate message is sent out to their mobile phone. Brite's VSD remembers which number was successful during the last try and this number is dialed first for the next call. D2-UniversalNumber was implemented in two stages. First, the Follow Me service was installed. Once the forwarding numbers are entered into the Brite VSD via a settings menu, the network forwards the call to the VSD if the subscriber cannot be reached and the VSD initiates further activities. In the second stage, the Find Me service was implemented. This service allows the subscriber to define different telephone numbers, dependent on parameters such as time of day, day of the week, etc. When a call comes in, the subscriber can either read the calling number on the display or, when he or she picks up the phone, hears the number spoken. He or she can then decide whether to accept the call or forward it. With D2-UniversalNumber, mobile staff can put their D2 number as their main contact number on their business cards, thus ensuring that calls will reach them whatever their location. For example, in the morning all calls can be directed to the office, while on the road calls go to the mobile and in the evening they are forwarded to the home number. In all cases the person is available under one single number, i.e. that of the D2 mobile. Brite's multi-application platforms, VSD and BriteESP, use open architecture and industry-standard modules, enabling fast, economical and modular expansion of new services. The platforms are open systems and are flexible enough to be tailored to the customers' requirements, providing simultaneously solutions that fulfill their needs exactly. New applications like D2-UniversalNumber are easy to introduce, allowing easy system integration and smooth expansion.
