Britain Today: Freed man dies.


A MAN whose conviction was quashed after he served nearly 20 years in jail for the murder of a bakery worker has died, it was revealed yesterday.

Anthony Steel Anthony Maitland Steel (21 May 1920 – 21 March 2001) was an English actor.

Anthony Steel was born in London, the son of an Indian army officer and educated at Cambridge.
, 52, was jailed at Leeds Crown Court in December 1979 over the killing of 20-year-old Carol Wilkinson in Ravenscliffe, Bradford, in October 1977.

He was released on licence in 1998, when his case was being considered by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC Noun 1. CCRC - an agency in the Department of Defense that is a national center for research on all aspects of injury control and casualty care

), and his conviction was quashed by the Court of Appeal in February 2003.
