Britain Today: Council rapped.A COUNCIL refused to collect a frail pensioner's rubbish because her country home had no kerb. The woman, in her 80s, faced a lengthy walk to drop off her bin bags at the end of her road after changes to the refuse collection system on the Isle of Arran Not to be confused with Aran Islands. The Isle of Arran (Scots Gaelic: Eilean Arainn) is the largest island in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland, with an area of 430 km² (167 square miles). It is in the unitary council area of North Ayrshire. . A request for help was refused by North Ayrshire Council because, without a kerbside, the elderly lady did not qualify for assistance with the new scheme. The authority has been forced to apologise to the pensioner, known only as Mrs C, and pay pounds 500 compensation after her son appealed to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman is a the main ombudsman in Scotland.
