Bristol's Incredible Cultural Scene

Bristol is by far one of the greatest cultural hubs in the UK, with arts, museums and musical talent flooding the city from all avenues.

Bristol is one of the most famous cities in the UK when it comes to art. After being a finalist in the 2008 European Capital of Culture awards, Bristol has since been propelled to fame and enjoys a plethora of artistic opportunities that brings tourists to the city from all over.

No matter what part of the arts is your favourite, be it the theatre, galleries and installations, music or any other type of creative endeavour, Bristol can deliver a huge amount of rewards for even the most discerning fan. With a great volume of theatres, including the Bristol Old Vic - an offshoot of London''s famous Old Vic theatre - Bristol really has a thriving theatre scene that encompasses the full range of theatrical delights. Regardless of your preference - from dramas to musicals, from West End travelling shows to local amateur dramatics - Bristol has it all, and it makes for a perfect evening out if you''re planning on visiting the city.

As for music, Bristol really excels as a hub of innovation. Being a powerful home during both the punk and funk eras, Bristol''s music often has a powerful political theme running through it and the city has even created its own musical genre, known as Bristol Sound. Examples of this music include bands like Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky - so the title is more to do with where the bands come from as opposed to any similarity in sound. In any case, the city is always jumping with gigs of all styles taking place in front of big crowds every night - a must visit for live music fans. You might discover your next few favourite bands just by taking a risk and heading to any one of Bristol''s live music venues to sample the local talent.

Of course, Bristol is also home to esteemed graffiti artist Banksy, whose works are evident all over the city in the form of murals sprayed onto the sides of public buildings. Banksy has come to be something of a treasure amongst Bristol''s residents and it''s not uncommon to find tourists taking a Banksy tour to visit all of the artist''s most popular works around the city.

After all that exploring, you''ll be able to enjoy a good night''s sleep in any of the numerous Bristol hotels to ensure you''re well rested to get discovering the scene all over again the next day - you''ll never fall short of having something to do!
