, the Brinker International Board of Directors approved a management change at the company Wednesday.

The Board agreed to Mr. Norman Brinker's request to use his role as chairman of the board to concentrate his attention on global issues facing the company. To help facilitate this expanded focus, the directors, also at Mr. Brinker's request, named Ron McDougall chief executive officer in addition to his current position as president. Previously, Mr. Brinker had served as chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and Mr. McDougall served as president. The title changes take effect June 29, the beginning of the company's fiscal year.

Mr. Brinker released a letter to company employees. He noted the competitiveness in the restaurant industry and the need for "the chairman of the Board to concentrate his energies on major issues including global expansion, assistance in developing restaurant concepts and the legislative opportunities affecting the industry."

Mr. Brinker and Mr. McDougall said they expected a "seamless" transition. The two men have worked together with tremendous success for 21 years.

"In my almost 40 years in the restaurant industry, I have never seen the restaurant business more competitive than it is today," Mr. Brinker said. "Other companies have seen our plan work, and they are copying it. Remaining this industry's touchstone touchstone
