, his wife Kaede returns to her family home only to find that her sisters have been lured into the control of political foes; then she is kidnapped and trapped into marriage with Lord Fujiwara. The main story follows Takeo as he continues his political and martial battles. Scarred in both body and spirit, the two are reunited at last.

An afterword leads one to expect sequels, most likely concerning the next generation. This is the third volume in which the narrators have interpreted these characters, and their voicings have continued to improve with practice. Gray's narration continues to be well done, and Nakasone's has been refined and improved, making for a smooth and moving narration.
