This mobility solution is part of Intel's initiative to accelerate notebook PC adoption by driving industry-wide standards for notebook ingredients. Intel is working individually with three major ODMs (original design manufacturers)--namely Asus, Compal and Quanta--to enable seven Common Building Blocks for these notebook designs.

The mobility launch by Brightpoint is supported by a broad ecosystem ranging from product design and manufacturing, to distribution and post-sales support. As an aggregator in this initiative, Brightpoint will purchase these notebooks from the ODMs and provide support in the promotion and distribution of these notebook PCs to the participating Intel's distributors.

"Intel is committed to working with local players such as Brightpoint to enable them to capitalize on the shift to new technologies such as mobility," said William M Siu, Intel vice president and general manager for Channel Platforms Group.

"Brightpoint is pleased that it will be able to participate in Intel's initiative to accelerate notebook PC adoption by introducing its world-class supply chain solutions to this exciting new channel," said Robert J., Laikin, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Brightpoint, Inc.

For the past few years, Intel has been working with world-class component suppliers to drive interchangeable notebook components, commonly known as CBBs (Common Building Blocks). With these suppliers, Intel has enabled CBBs in seven categories: hard disk drive, optical drive, LCD panel, battery pack, customizable notebook panel, power adapters and keyboards.
