BrightStar Acquires Cogent, Phoenix-Based IT Company

HOUSTON, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- BrightStar Information Technology Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: BTSR) is pleased to announce the acquisition, effective June 30, 1998, of Cogent Technologies, LLC, a Phoenix-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation company.

Cogent was founded in 1997 by Shawn Tibbitts and Gregory Robinson. The company specializes in the implementation of PeopleSoft and Platinum software packages. Cogent has an office in Phoenix and will extend BrightStar ERP*PLUS(SM) services into the Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Southern California markets.

Cogent focuses on providing mid-tier customers (Up to $500 million in annual revenues) with a full range of implementation and customization services. Cogent participates in the PeopleSoft Select Program, which is directed at this large mid-tier market segment and offers rapid implementation of ERP as well as fully integrated customer/consultant project terms. Cogent's operations will be closely coordinated with BrightStar's Mindworks training center located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Cogent will form the nucleus of a technical center of excellence, BrightStar Enterprise Systems Laboratory, to be established in Scottsdale. This new center of excellence will be unique to this region of the United States and will support both the proprietary PeopleSoft rapid implementation process and the PeopleSoft release upgrade program.
