A BRIGHT idea from the Rotary Rotary can refer to:

 Club is helping pensioners save money by giving them low-energy lightbulbs.

Volunteers in Monkseaton Monkseaton is a village near Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, in the northeast of England. It is in the north-east of the borough, less than a kilometre from the North Sea coast and around 5 km north of the River Tyne at North Shields. , near Whitley Bay Whitley Bay, town (1991 pop. 36,040), North Tyneside metropolitan district, NE England, on the North Sea. Formerly the urban district of Whitley and Monkseaton, Whitley Bay was chartered as a municipal borough in 1954. , have 50,000 light-bulbs to give out to anyone over 70.

Each person is allowed to collect up to eight bulbs for their home which help the environment and save money by using less powe r.

Monkseaton Rotary Club chairman Barbara Connors-Fowler announced the plans at a meeting for members at The Monkseaton Arms.

She said: "I'm delighted that the low energy light-bulbs will be delivered to each qualifying applicant at absolutely no cost and without strings.

"Rotary is supporting the national commitment to reduce energy consumption at this time of high electricity prices.

"The further 50,000 bulbs we are giving away before Easter are just as bright as ordinary ones but use up to 80% less electricity and last around eight times longer."
