The original 100-bulb ceiling fixture was destroyed when a German bomb ripped through the east wing of the landmark building in 1941. Now councillors have paid specialist chandelier maker Dernier & Hamlyn in London pounds 120,000 to build a copy of the 1.3-tonne piece. It has been installed where its predecessor used to hang - in the City Hall's famous 60-metre high dome. Gerry Millar, the council's director of improvement, said: "We were able to find the original drawings and the company worked from that."
