of Belfast City Hall Belfast City Hall is the civic building of the Belfast City Council. Located in Donegall Square, it faces north and effectively divides the commercial and business areas of the city centre. .

The original 100-bulb ceiling fixture was destroyed when a German bomb ripped through the east wing of the landmark building in 1941.

Now councillors have paid specialist chandelier maker Dernier & Hamlyn in London pounds 120,000 to build a copy of the 1.3-tonne piece.

It has been installed where its predecessor used to hang - in the City Hall's famous 60-metre high dome.

Gerry Millar, the council's director of improvement, said: "We were able to find the original drawings and the company worked from that."
