Founded in 1979 by Richard J. Egan and Roger Marino, EMC has developed advanced storage and retrieval technologies for the world's largest companies.  Data Center for Information Imaging within the BWH Center of Excellence for Evidence-Based Imaging. Together, EMC and BWH will develop innovative practices for a fully digital healthcare imaging environment.

EMC will utilize the Center to develop best practices in medical imaging and to better understand requirements to develop future technologies.

In addition to the Center, BWH has standardized on EMC CLARiiON enterprise storage systems and software infrastructure for its Multi-Disciplinary Picture Archiving and Communication System In medical imaging, picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) are computers or networks dedicated to the storage, retrieval, distribution and presentation of images. The medical images are stored in an independent format.  (MD-PACS), now the largest in the country generating more than 2 terabytes of image information per month from over 120 state-of-the-art image acquisition devices in radiology, cardiology, and other image generating disciplines. EMC MirrorView(TM) remote replication software is currently being installed for business continuity at another site on campus. BWH utilizes EMC Navisphere(TM) Manager software to simplify data management and improve information availability.
