Briers aims to make his final medal count now.

LEE Briers Lee Briers is a rugby league player who plays stand-off for Warrington Wolves. He formerly played for St Helens RFC, breaking into the first team as a teenager, standing in for the suspended captain Bobbie Goulding, and helping guide the Saints through to the 1997 Rugby League , Warrington's inspirational in·spi·ra·tion·al

stand-off, is desperate to get his hands on a Challenge Cup winners' medal - to replace the one he threw away!

The 31-year-old Welsh international will end a 13-year wait to play in a final when he runs out against Huddersfield at Wembley today.

Saints went on to lift the trophy, but Briers, who played in the semi-final win over Salford, missed out on the trip to Wembley after Bobbie Goulding returned from suspension to reclaim his scrum-half spot.

Briers immediately joined Warrington, who have been Super League's perennial perennial, any plant that under natural conditions lives for several to many growing seasons, as contrasted to an annual or a biennial. Botanically, the term perennial  under-achievers after promising so much and failing to deliver. He is now hoping that is about to change.

"I had three defeats in semis and I've got a winners' medal, but that doesn't really count," said Briers. "It got thrown away a long time ago. I want one for myself.

"It's every boy's dream to play at Wembley and I'm no different. This will be the highlight of my career by a country mile.

"I'm a positive person and, although I've had a few heartbreaks, it's been worth waiting for. I kept trying my best to get there and obviously it's happened now.

"But I don't want to go there and just take part, I want to win it, as do Huddersfield.

"We're going to enjoy it but you only really enjoy it if you get the winners' medal at the end of it.

"It's going to be hard for us but we're a strong unit and we've some top players. It's all going to be on the day."
