College tuition savings plan

reports $100 million in assets

SALEM - Oregon's state-sponsored college savings plan program hit the $100 million asset mark, State Treasurer Randall Edwards said Wednesday.

The Oregon College Savings Plan was introduced less than 2 1/2 years ago. Under the plan, taxpayers contribute money into an array of accounts that can be later used to pay for college.

The plan offers taxpayers up to a $2,000 state tax deduction on contributions each year. Also, all earnings and withdrawals are federal and Oregon state tax-free when used for higher-education expenses.

Edwards also announced the plan has added a conservative portfolio for those investors who want no exposure to the stock market.
