Alzheimer's consultant Krista Keever will cover warning signs and talk about what to do if a friend or loved one begins to exhibit any signs or has been diagnosed. Awards and achievements Kathryn Vaughn has received the Eugene Soroptimists' Women's Opportunity Award of $1,000. Vaughn, a Lane Community College student, works 30 hours a week and volunteers in health care and at a local hospice. She plans to study pharmacology at Oregon State University Oregon State University, at Corvallis; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1858 as Corvallis College, opened 1865. It was originally modeled after the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, organizations created in Great Britain by Sir Robert Baden-Powell during of Western Rivers Council has presented awards to several members of the community for outstanding contributions: Evelyn Edwards of Florence received the Outstanding Volunteer Award in recognition of her special effort in two or more positions in her area. Marsi Vitus and Susan Coxon received Honor Pins in recognition of exemplary service to more than one area of the council. The pin is the second highest national award presented. Linda Glasser, Robbie McGowan and Robin Norris were named Outstanding Volunteers. The award recognizes adult members who are active in more than one capacity. Appreciation Pins, the third highest national award, were presented to Julia Carver, Melody Leslie and Christine Beneda. The award recognizes outstanding service to the council. Ann Nunley, Tracey Tessler and Teresa Mason received Outstanding Leader awards for outstanding leadership ability and communication skills shown by troop leaders or assistant leaders. Outstanding Rookie Leader awards went to Jennifer Hayward, Jennifer Bloomer-Diouf and Nedra Dewar. The award recognizes a leader or assistant leader who has successfully completed the first year of leadership and has shown the ability to grow through the Girl Scout program.
