Man plans to skateboard to raise research funds

CORVALLIS - The father of a boy who recently died of Lowe syndrome Lowe syndrome Oculocerebrorenal syndrome, see there  plans to skateboard across the country with three others to raise money for medical research on the rare genetic disorder.

Jack Smith's 14-year-old son, Jack Jr., died May 6 of the syndrome, which causes physical and mental disabilities, including cataracts, glaucoma glaucoma (glôkō`mə), ocular disorder characterized by pressure within the eyeball caused by an excessive amount of aqueous humor (the fluid substance filling the eyeball).  and kidney problems.
