Brief Encounter is a date for your diary; AT THE MOVIES.Byline: Graham Young THE BBC BBC in full British Broadcasting Corp. Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927. Summer of British Film Season continues next week with a digitally-remastered version of David Lean's Brief Encounter (PG) playing the Cineworld Cinemas at both Solihull Touchwood and Birmingham Broad Street on Tuesday. Other dates for your diary are-Billy Liar (PG, 94 mins) on Aug 14; Henry V (PG, 137 mins) on Aug 21, The Wicker Man For other uses, see The Wicker Man (disambiguation). The Wicker Man was a large wicker statue of a human allegedly used by the ancient Druids for human sacrifice by burning it in effigy, according to Julius Caesar in his Commentarii de Bello Gallico ( (15, 84 mins) on Aug 28, The Dam-busters (U, 120 mins) on Sep 4 and Withnail & I (15, 107 mins) on Sep 11. All tickets are just pounds 2.50 but, remember, Goldfinger, which I had the honour of introducing at Cineworld Broad Street this week, was a total sell out. Chief projectionist and diehard 007 fan Mick Corfield demonstrated to the audience the physical difference between film and digital and then watched the digital version of Goldfinger with interest. His verdict was that he was pleasantly surprised - but he still prefers film! Digital, though, is the only way we are ever going to see many older movies on the silver screen because of the way reels of film deteriorate. The format is also remarkably clear. Watching the remastered Casablanca earlier this year, you could see every stitch on Humphrey Bogart's jacket.
