Bridgeway Announces Unique Network Management Solution to Redefine Service Provider Capabilities; Revolutionary Customer Network Management Solutions.

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1996--Bridgeway Corporation today announced the release of the Keystone product line, the first customer network management (CNM CNM Certified Nurse-Midwife; see nurse-midwife.

) solution which is totally open, flexible, cost-effective and vendor independent.

Keystone offers CNM solutions for Virtual Private Networks for providers who are implementing Frame Relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers. , ATM or SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) A high-speed, switched data communications service offered by the local telephone companies for interconnecting LANs in different locations. It was introduced in 1992 and became generally available nationwide by 1995.  networks. Keystone has been designed in accordance with Bellcore standards to meet stringent requirements of commercial telecommunications carriers and service providers with large enterprise networks supplying network services to multiple locations. Keystone is currently undergoing trials with several domestic service providers.

The Keystone 1000, 2000 and 3000 series are mid-level managers using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  technology to provide the service provider's customers with management information about shared network facilities. , is a management agent for frame relay networks. The 2000 series MLM is the management agent for ATM networks. The Keystone 3000 series MLM is the agent for managing SMDS networks.

All the Keystone MLMs act as agents to the subscriber's management system and as a manager to service provider network devices. Each serves to authenticate the access privileges of each subscriber customer. All Keystone MLMs select information provided to the subscriber customer so only necessary details about the shared elements in the customer's network are revealed to that customer. Confidentiality of other customer network elements and the service provider network as a whole is ensured.

The Keystone MLMs support access from any of the industry standard SNMP managers, e.g., those provided by Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA[3]) is an American vendor of computers, computer components, computer software, and information-technology services, founded on 24 February 1982.  and IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) . A single Keystone MLM supports as many as 1000 concurrent users. Support of larger user populations can be achieved by configuring additional units.

The Keystone 5000 series CNM stations allow the service provider to establish manager-to-manager communications between the customer's network management systems and the service provider's operations support systems Operations Support Systems (also called Operational Support Systems or OSS) are computer systems used by telecommunications service providers. The term OSS most frequently describes "network systems" dealing with the telecom network itself, supporting processes such . The various interfaces of the Keystone 5000 series gives the service provider session-oriented, real-time database synchronization and real-time event forwarding without the SNMP polling associated with the mid-level manager. Network information is extracted to screen unnecessary data, thus making the information provided clearer and more useful. The Keystone 5000 series service provider stations can also be used in combination with the VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  mid-level managers to provide a redundant mode of operation for those environments requiring stringent fault tolerance.

The Keystone 6000 CNM subscriber station series consists of management applications employed by the CNM subscriber to interpret and display management information provided by both the VPN mid-level managers and the CNM service provider stations. The 6000 series stations employ an intuitive, easy to use interface to guide the user's access of service provider CNM facilities.

The Keystone 6000 series includes access via SNMP on popular management platforms or via HTTP HTTP
