Bridgestone recalls 27,000 tires in North America.


Bridgestone Firestone announced a recall of 27,000 tires in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  in connection with a tread separation problem, the same flaw that prompted a massive recall of its tires four years ago. The suspect tires have been shown to be prone to tread separation that "can, in rare instances, lead to a loss of control of a vehicle and a possible crash," the company said in a statement. The problem has been cited in nine accidents that have led to lawsuits, one of them fatal. The company said the tire implicated im·pli·cate

In the other cases, motorists suffered whiplash whiplash n. a common neck and/or back injury suffered in automobile accidents (particularly from being hit from the rear) in which the head and/or upper back is snapped back and forth suddenly and violently by the impact. . broken bones and minor cuts and bruises because of tire failure. The voluntary recall covers 25,600 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires that were sold in the United States, and an additional 1,400 sold in Canada. These tires were manufactured in Japan by parent company Bridgestone.
