Bridgestone, tire firms sue Chemtura for prices.


Three tire companies are suing rubber chemicals maker Chemtura in federal court in Nashville, seeking refunds and triple damages for goods purchased during a global price fixing
Price Fixing
Establishing the price of a product or service, rather than allowing it to be determined naturally through free market forces. This procedure is often an illegal practice.

 conspiracy. Middlebury, CT-based Chemtura, which last year changed its name from Crompton, has pleaded guilty in a federal case and has been fined by European regulators for its role in artificially boosting prices of chemicals used to make rubber between 1995 and 2001. The lawsuit was filed by Bridgestone, Nashville, TN; Baudag, Muscatine Muscatine (mŭskətēn`), city (1990 pop. 22,881), seat of Muscatine co., SE Iowa, on the Mississippi River; inc. 1851. An early center of river traffic and lumbering, Muscatine is the shipping and processing center of a rich agricultural area. There is also light manufacturing., IA; and Pirelli Tire LLC, Rome, GA. Chemtura and subsidiary Uniroyal Chemical are named as defendants.
