BridgeCo Demos Microsoft Windows Media Connect Enabled Digital Media Receiver Platform.

BridgeCo (www.bridgeco.net), a leading provider of digital home entertainment networking solutions, demonstrated today a complete wireless digital media receiver reference design that supports Microsoft's Windows Media Connect Media server software from Microsoft that enables Windows Media Player to share multimedia content over the network. Using the UPnP protocol to discover the media files on the network, Windows Media Connect lets users send files and playlists to digital media hubs (digital media  technology. The BridgeCo reference design was publicly demonstrated at Microsoft's Digital Entertainment Anywhere launch event, which unveiled new digital entertainment solutions at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium The Shrine Auditorium is a landmark large-event venue in Los Angeles, California, USA. BridgeCo worked with Microsoft to develop the reference design, which enables OEMs and ODMs to create networked audio products that wirelessly link living room audio equipment to the digital music content stored on Windows XP and Windows XP Media Center Edition See Media Center Edition.  PCs. BridgeCo is currently working with several OEMs that are adopting the reference design for consumer products.

The BridgeCo reference design includes BridgeCo's proprietary processor and firmware with 802.11b wireless networking capability. Consumer products based on the reference design will allow existing home audio systems to discover and wirelessly stream digital audio content -- including purchased and subscription content from services and stores using Windows Media DRM Windows Media DRM is a Digital Rights Management service for the Windows Media platform. It is designed to provide secure delivery of audio and/or video content over an IP network to a PC or other playback device in such a way that the distributor can control how that content is  -- from Windows XP-based PCs.

BridgeCo's wireless home networking reference design includes a proprietary ARM-based processor, a proprietary RTOS (1) (RealTime Operating System) An operating system designed for use in a real time computer system. The BridgeCo processor interfaces directly to an 802.11 PHY/MAC chipset, and drives either digital or analog outputs that connect directly to an audio system.
