But even that didn't affect her active childhood and she took up dancing at the age of four. Swimming was her passion and she has competed at international level.

Graham, a nurse from Motherwell, has always supported Nicola and as he hugged his new wife, he said: "I can't put it into words, but Nicola knows just how much I love her."

The 100 wedding guests included Nicola's Uncle Sam Uncle Sam, name used to designate the U.S. government. The term arose in the War of 1812 and seems at first to have been used derisively by those opposed to the war. Possibly it was an expansion of the letters "U.S. , not from America but all the way from Canada.

The couple were whisked off by stretched limo to Edinburgh's Stakis Hotel, before jetting off for a honeymoon in Jamaica. But they were keeping quiet about a trip to Dundee yesterday - to see their favourite team, Motherwell, in action.

Said Nicola: "I'd like to thank the Sunday Mail for making this the most memorable day of my life."
