IntelliCAD: Leading Computer-Aided Design Product
IntelliCAD is a Microsoft Windows-based product, which offers all the functionality and versatility of leading computer-aided design packages. It provides unrivaled file compatibility with Autodesk's AutoCAD using AutoCAD's native DWG file format, and is fully programmable with hundreds of third party solutions. In September 1999, Visio licensed the source code and documentation of IntelliCAD to the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (http://www.intellicad.org), of which Bricsnet is a board member. Commercial members of the ITC, such as Bricsnet, are entitled to create and release commercial versions of IntelliCAD, as well as include IntelliCAD in other products. Commercial IntelliCAD developers are not required to pay royalties, but must submit all enhancements to the ITC for inclusion in the source code.
Bricsnet will offer IntelliCAD 2000 through Bricsnet.com, its newly launched e-marketplace for the building industry, which integrates all the tools and content needed to design a building, manage a geographically dispersed project team, exchange information, and purchase building materials worldwide. The IntelliCAD agreement gives architects, engineers and other building professionals access to state-of-the-art CAD capabilities -- within a fully integrated, work-centric online environment -- at cost levels that are substantially lower than existing packages. Moreover, the agreement will introduce the large, active community of IntelliCAD users to the full Bricsnet.com e-Marketplace, which includes design software, project extranet, building product information, discussion forums, and an e-store.
&uot;IntelliCAD complements our high-end 3D architectural modeling software with a solution for users who need to create or change 2D drawings,&uot; said Dr. Maarten van Emmerik, Bricsnet's executive vice president and chief technology officer. &uot;IntelliCAD is an integral part of our vision of a global e-marketplace offering products and services that are easy to use, affordable and based on industry standards. As an ITC board member, Bricsnet is committed to dedicating substantial resources to further IntelliCAD development. IntelliCAD will also become a key component of our strategy to integrate computer-aided design software with building product information and project data management.&uot;
Steven Malloch, vice president of Nucor Building Systems (http://www.nucor.com), comments, &uot;With its unrivaled AutoCAD compatibility, IntelliCAD is the user-friendly, customizable and affordable solution we count on for our sophisticated Visual Basic applications. We're pleased to know that Bricsnet will be spearheading future IntelliCAD development because it has a proven record of providing the technical expertise and outstanding service IntelliCAD users need. Moreover, because IntelliCAD is integrated into the Bricsnet.com e-Marketplace, IntelliCAD users will be introduced to a host of productivity-enhancing tools and information.&uot;
Adding further value to IntelliCAD, Bricsnet will soon offer an IntelliCAD-compatible version of Bricsnet Architecturals. Bricsnet Architecturals enables designers to quickly create and modify complex 3D models, automatically generate drawings, and obtain quantities and cost estimations. Bricsnet Architecturals for IntelliCAD is compatible with AutoCAD. Bricsnet Architecturals will also become available for AutoCAD 2000 and AutoCAD R14.
