Brick Industry Association awards Granary Associates' project.

Chosen by a jury panel of architects from around the country, the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Harmony Pavilion has received a Silver Award in the health care facilities category of the 2008 Brick in Architecture Awards Program. The exterior design of the 198,000 s/f addition and 23,000 s/f renovation took into consideration the uniqueness of the location. Being located just one block from the ocean, extreme environmental conditions which include a very humid atmosphere, howling winds and blowing sand, as well as hurricanes and severe winter storms were a factor. With that in mind, the design team chose to use clay brick for the exterior of the facility. This not only provided a durable exterior building material, but also created a linear look that complemented the existing structures and allowed for a soft arch to extend from a portion of the building, emphasizing the building's architecture.

The new nine-story patient tower, includes an imaging department, 26-bed intensive care unit, four medical/surgical floors with 30 private patient rooms each, and also houses a new Emergency Department. The Emergency Department can easily accommodate up to 75,000 annual visits.
