The management team that helped resurrect Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) brand of beer will try to do the same for a small brewer specializing in beer aimed at people who can't consume wheat or barley. Bard's Tale Beer Co., based in Missouri, said it has named Brian Kovalchuk as chief executive officer and Brian Bizer as chief financial officer. Kovalchuk and Bizer, who began working with the company last month, held the same positions at Pabst Brewing Co. from 2001 to 2005. During that period, Kovalchuk oversaw the company's turnaround, slashing debt and bringing the company back to profitability. Its flagship PBR brand enjoyed a renaissance among young drinkers as a "hip" alternative to more mainstream brands.
