BriView expects to win LCD TV assembly order from Sony.Taipei, July 29, 2009 (CENS) -- BriView Technology Corp., a LCD TV assembly subsidiary of AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), the largest thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel manufacturer in Taiwan, recently won contract orders for smaller-sized TVs from LG. The TV assembly contractor is also expected to win orders from Sony of Japan by the end of the year, industry sources said. Currently, the world's top-five LCD TV brands are Samsung, Sony, LG, Philips and Sharp. BriView is a joint venture between AUO and affiliated Qisda Corp. (formerly the manufacturing division of BenQ Corp.), which contracts BriView to assemble LCD TVs. Industry sources pointed out the BenQ-AUO group has been actively trying to win LCD TV and panel orders from Sony, which now contracts Taiwan-based Hon Hai Group to supply both TV panels, assembled TVs and game consoles. The sources added that except Samsung of South Korea, AUO is another major TV-panel supplier to Sony and has been developing many new products for the Japanese brand. So, they said, BriView stands a good chance to win Sony's whole-set orders with the backup from AUO. Sony is aggressively adjusting its TV business and closing many production plants worldwide, creating more contractassembly opportunities (of mainly middle- to low-end models) for specialized assemblers.
