Brewer Scottish & Newcastle PLC (S&N) rejected a joint
$13.9 billion offer from rivals Carlsberg A/S and Heineken NV,
describing the approach as a derisory attempt to get its "unique
portfolio of businesses on the cheap." S&N said that the offer
substantially undervalued its unique strengths and markets. It rejected
requests from Carlsberg and Heineken to open its books and meet for
further talks.
