, Sandstone Products' reputation and sales were damaged dramatically when Republic accused the company of fraud, dishonesty and poor products, spreading malicious rumors to Sandstone's existing and prospective customers, as well as others in the industry. "The Truth About Sandstone," which contained defamatory information and was disseminated by Republic's sales people, even caused customers to breach their contracts with Sandstone.

"This judgment restores Sandstone's reputation and puts other companies on notice that they cannot intentionally attempt to run another company out of business," said Brewer. "Despite the judgment, Republic has requested a Dec. 5 hearing for a new trial. We're surprised their shareholders would condone condone v. 1) to forgive, support, and/or overlook moral or legal failures of another without protest, with the result that it appears that such breaches of moral or legal duties are acceptable.  this additional expense in such an open-and-shut case."
