Brew pub takes over downtown location.Byline: Joe Mosley The Register-Guard A downtown Eugene restaurant that began as an upscale barbecue joint and then became a "dive bar" is now officially a public house. Oregon Brewing Co., the parent of Rogue Ales Rogue Ales is an American craft brewery founded in 1988 in Ashland, Oregon when co-founders Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser and Bob Woodell opened their first brewpub.[1] and the Rogue Rogue, river, c.200 mi (320 km) long, rising in SW Oreg., in the Cascade Range N of Crater Lake. It flows southwest and west through a fertile valley (noted for its orchard fruits) and then across the Coast Range to the Pacific Ocean at Gold Beach. BBQ BBQ barbecue building at 844 Olive St. Oregon Brewing opened the establishment on Thursday as the Rogue Ales Public House. "We have a 24-hour rule," Rogue owner Jack Joyce said. "Hey, why would you pay rent and not be open? The last place failed in there, and I don't want to do the same." The 7,600-square-foot building includes brewing equipment capable of producing 600 to 1,000 barrels of beer a year. Joyce said the pub will produce a variety of beers, including some of the Eugene City Brewing recipes that were offered during the restaurant's previous incarnations. Customers also will have their choice of Rogue Ales selections brewed at the company's Newport facility - from Shakespeare Stout to Brutal Bitter to Dead Guy Ale. "We've expanded it from nine to 30 taps," Joyce said. "We'll carry a full range of Rogue products, along with domestics, imports and competitive micros." A selection of distilled spirits - including Rogue's own rum rum, spirituous liquor made from fermented sugarcane products. Prepared by fermentation, distillation, and aging, it is made from the molasses and foam that rise to the top of boiled sugarcane juice. - also will be available, along with several varieties of wine. BBQ in the building for several years before moving it last year to his River Ranch Steakhouse, at 2123 Franklin Boulevard. At the Olive Street spot, West then opened the Dive Bar & Grill, but it failed to catch on and he closed it several months ago. |
