BreezeCOM Joins Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance; BreezeCOM Joins the Multi-Vendor Alliance Created to Test and Certify High-Speed Wireless LAN Systems Interoperability.

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1999--

BreezeCOM(R), a worldwide leader in wireless networking See wireless network.  technology, Wednesday announced it has joined the Wireless Ethernet The standard for wireless networking within a home or office. Also known as a "Wi-Fi" or "802.11" network, wireless Ethernet is the wireless counterpart to regular, wired Ethernet, which is also the standard for local networks. See 802.11 and wireless LAN.  Compatibility Alliance (WECA See Wi-Fi Alliance. ).

BreezeCOM's decision to become a member of WECA is a result of the company's recent release of a new high-speed, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.11-compliant, direct sequence wireless networking product line, the BreezeNET(R) DS.11. The BreezeNET DS.11 Series will adhere to adhere to

the standards set by the alliance for high-speed, multi-vendor interoperability and will be displayed and demonstrated during NetWorld+Interop in Atlanta at BreezeCOM's booth (No. 7152).

"From the beginning, BreezeCOM has been committed to developing standards-based products," said Michael Rothenberg, chief executive officer and founder of BreezeCOM Ltd. "Our commitment to high quality products is evident by our association with WECA and the 43 percent share of the outdoor wireless market we have captured."

WECA has agreed to adopt the IEEE 802.11 High-Rate (HR), Direct Sequence (DS) as its standard for testing interoperability. Direct sequence products built to the new standard will use the 2.4 GHz radio band and run at 11 Mbps to ensure global, seamless, high-speed wireless connections for the enterprise, small office and home markets.

WECA was founded to ensure true multi-vendor interoperability by certifying that different manufacturers systems can operate within the same wireless infrastructure. Through the certification of high-speed wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  systems, WECA's goal will be to ensure customers receive a proven level of interoperability when building a wireless network environment. WECA will grant a seal of interoperability to vendors upon successful completion of the prescribed test suites.

The BreezeNET DS.11 Series is BreezeCOM's new IEEE 802.11-compliant line of high-speed, direct sequence wireless networking products which operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency band and deliver a data rate of up to 11 Mbps. The DS.11 Series was specifically designed for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint applications in enterprise and campus environments where higher data rates are needed but the number of connecting points is relatively small.

About BreezeCOM

BreezeCOM is a worldwide technology leader of wireless access products, which they develop and manufacture for data and voice applications. These products are targeted at private enterprises and public operators such as ISPs or Local Exchange Carriers (LECs). BreezeCOM is active in the field of indoor/outdoor Wireless LAN, Wireless Internet Access See how to access the Internet.  (WIA WIA

Incorporating internally developed core technologies, the products employ point to multi-point wireless packet switching A network technology that breaks up a message into small packets for transmission. Unlike circuit switching, which requires the establishment of a dedicated point-to-point connection, each packet in a packet-switched network contains a destination address.  technologies, optimized for high speed Internet and Intranet access. Committed to standards and open architectures, BreezeCOM is a major contributor to the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Standard and chairs the High Speed Wireless LAN subcommittee. Founded in 1992, the company is privately held. BreezeCOM can be reached on the Internet at www.breezecom.com.

About WECA

The Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), a newly formed consortium, consists of several leaders in the wireless and communications industries, including BreezeCOM, 3Com, Aironet, Intersil, Lucent Technologies, Nokia and Symbol Technologies. These manufacturers have united to drive the adoption of an agreed-upon standard for high-speed wireless local area networking. Support of the IEEE 802.11 High Rate (HR) Direct Sequence (DS) standard will help ensure global, seamless, high-speed wireless connections for the enterprise, small office and home markets.
