The D5001 processor is optimized for use with the more cost-effective, yet powerful Intel 960 CPU family and also enables the printer manufacturer to reduce overall printer controller and memory cost. The Super-Banding PageStyler II page description language also utilizes less memory further lowering overall printer development and retail costs.

The Super-Banding PageStyler II

Known for its flexibility and sophisticated features, PostScript has been the primary page description language for the desktop printing and publishing market. Destiny's Super-Banding PageStyler II, for either host-based or resident controllers, overcomes the RAM-intensive nature of PostScript by maximizing printer controller or system resources (1) In a computer system, system resources are the components that provide its inherent capabilities and contribute to its overall performance. System memory, cache memory, hard disk space, IRQs and DMA channels are examples.  through intelligent compression/decompression.

This technique allows the Super-Banding PageStyler II interpreter to process incoming PostScript language commands and build the raster page image while simultaneously monitoring memory utilization. At the point where available memory is not sufficient to continue rasterization, the Super-Banding PageStyler II interpreter selects a strip of information -- a band.

The strips are then further subdivided into blocks which are then compressed to free additional memory and allow the rasterization to continue. The "smart" compression algorithm in the Super-Banding PageStyler II can achieve a 4:1 ratio for images and 8:1 or better for text or simple graphics.

When an application needs to display or print, it makes a call to a GDI function and sends it the parameters for the object that must be created. , and QuickDraw-compatible interpreters, ASICs and multiple font integration to complete page printer controllers/cartridges.
