Del has spent her first 17 years in dreadful foster homes, yearning for her real mother and learning to hide her feelings from those around her. Finally Del breaks out, fakes her death, buys a beat-up 1963 Datsun with no A/C or insurance, takes her last $134.00, and heads out of town. Her breakout is short-lived. A horrendous accident stalls the LA freeway for hours. There, with hundreds of other stranded motorists, Del is forced to connect with those around her. She tries out her newly invented name, Elena Franco, on various strangers, and by the end of the afternoon bas found the courage to do an impromptu A Windows query and reporting tool from Cognos with support for a large variety of databases.
